PREIMPLANTATION GENETIC TESTING (PGT)

Having a healthy baby is the optimum goal for both parents and physician. Nowadays with all the progress in the molecular genetics, we can predict some genetic abnormalities ahead of transferring an embryo to the mother’s womb. Doing Preimplantation Genetic Testing – PGT before transferring an embryo increases the chance of pregnancy and will decrease the risk of miscarriages. Meanwhile doing Preimplantation Genetic Testing – PGT in an IVF cycle reduces number of IVF cycles needed to achieve pregnancy which means a faster and less expensive pregnancy.

Development of single cell genetic testing has made a big leap forward; from Fluorescent In Situ Hybridization (FISH) which only examined a few chromosomes to the recent high resolution Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) testing. The combination of trophectoderm (the cells which develops to placenta) biopsy and NGS PGT, enables us to predict some chromosomal number defects (PGTa), screen for specific mutation gene abnormality (PGTm) or chromosome structure rearrangement (PGTsr). Also, with more advanced technology, we can do perform PGTa even without doing the biopsy, just using the free genetic material in embryo culture media.

At Harvest Fertility, we are committed to our patients to give them the best fast results ever. Based on this philosophy, we recommend having PGT done so, we can select the best embryo for transfer. It will achieve success faster than just blind transfer of an unknown quality blastocyst.
