Dr. Ping Xia, Ph.D, HCLD
Dr. Ping Xia is Scientific Lab director for Harvest In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Program. She holds a position as an adjunct faculty at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She has done extensive studies in early embryonic development since 1985. Her first post-doctoral training started in 1990 at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (Rutgers University), followed by the second post-doctoral training in the University of Western Ontario, in Canada,
with well-known reproductive scientist, Dr. David T. Armstrong where she started Human IVF training. In 1995, she was appointed as assistant professor and promoted to director for the In Vitro Fertilization laboratory at the McMaster University in Canada. Dr. Xia was recruited to the University of Arizona as tenure-track faculty and director for reproductive laboratories. She was
also working in University of California at Davis and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
Dr. Xia’s research paper regarding oocyte morphological criteria was published in Human Reproduction in 1997 which has been cited by many reproductive scientists. Dr. Xia is very dedicated to improving pregnancy rates for the patients she provides the IVF services. Her paper regarding polyspermy during porcine embryo development resulted in a guest editorship of Microscopy Research Techniques for which she edited a special issue of “Biology of Polyspermy”. She was invited to write a review paper entitled “Polyspermy and its Clinical Indications” which was published in 2013. Dr. Xia is actively involved in the studies of ovarian cryopreservation, follicular development and embryonic stem cell differentiation. During her time working with Johns Hopkins Reproduction Center, she discovered cells in the human follicular fluids that is directly related to the oocyte quality in patients with diagnosis of endometriosis. Dr. Xia also has extensive IVF experience for the patients challenged with repeated failures and patients over 40 years of age.
Dr. Xia is a board High-complexity Clinical Laboratory Director (HCLD) certified by the American Board of Bioanalysis since 1999. In addition, Dr. Xia is also ABB certified Clinical Consultant
(CC) since 2012.
