For IVF, it requires many eggs to enhance pregnancy chance. So injectable medication, i.e. synthetic gonadotropin, or human menopausal gonadotropin, is used. Injectable medications are expensive. The alternative is to use oral medications, i.e. Clomid, Letrozole. These oral medications are intended to increase the internal FSH release. It is an indirect way to stimulate ovarian function. The potency is less than the injectable gonadotropin. The outcomes of these oral medications are less follicle development and less number of ova recovered. The success rate is significantly lower than the cycle with gonadotropin injection. The advantage is the low cost.
