Dr. Zhila N Harat

Embryology Lab Director

In Tehran, I was accepted to study medicine in the most prestigious academic center in the region, the University of Iran, Tehran Medical University.  There, I simultaneously received my second degree, a PhD in Human Reproductive Physiology. One of the professors advising my PhD thesis specialized in IVF, and whenever we met in his IVF laboratory, I would think “Wow, I wish I studied Embryology! It’s really great!”  I feel blessed to pursue a field that helps so many people.

Just one month before my graduation, an old classmate from my medical school had become a hospital manager called me.  He sought me out, asking me “We are going to start a brand new IVF lab in our center, and we need an Embryologist. Do you want to be trained for this position?”  At that moment, I was speechless and thought, “Wow. I’m going to help the miracle of life in creating human beings!”  I had the privilege of learning Embryology and Andrology skills in the largest clinical and academic IVF center in Middle East, The Royan Institute.  There, we performed more than 400 IVF cycles per month.  Training at a high volume center which was the pinnacle of IVF in the region gave me so many lessons.  I am inspired to always bring the best for my patients.

After an exhilarating year of hard work, I started to run the IVF Lab of Arash Women’s Hospital starting in February 2009.  I can’t forget the first baby who was born in our center.  She was a beautiful baby girl after 17 years of infertility by the parents.  They had almost given up. Instead, the parents were able to celebrate the miracle of life through having their child. I felt it was an honor to help them fulfill their dreams of having a baby.

At the first month of my career, we started with just three IVF cycles. When I left the center seven years later to come to the USA, our ability to assist in the miracle of life had vastly expanded. We had maxed out the capacity of the laboratory, increasing to more than forty-five IVF cycles per month.   Arash Women’s Hospital IVF Center was and still is among the most safest and successful IVF labs in Iran.  After immigrating to the United States, I had the chance of working with some of the best IVF centers in Southern California and take my skills to the highest levels for my patients. Through my training, I am certified by the American Board of Bioanalysis (ABB) as an Embryology Lab Supervisor and Embryology Lab Director.

I feel so blessed to be a part of Harvest Fertility Center.  This is a team of brilliant minded, hardworking, knowledgeable and experienced people with ambitious goals for you, our patients.  We stand as a new center with an incredible vision on a uniquely, difficult problem, Infertility.  We promise to take on this challenge with you and give you new hope in your dreams of having children.
